5 Steps to Get Rid of Dog Fleas

Dog fleas are more than a nuisance, they cause stress for both you and your dog. We've had first hand experience with this annoying issue as we went through our own flea infestation with our dog (shown above) and want to help you from making the same costly mistakes we made. So why is Healthwise Exercise giving you flea control tips?

Because we're all about helping you save you time, money and having to deal with the stress that can cause other health issues.

Fleas Are More Than A Nuisance

Dog Fleas Cause Stress to Your Pet and You

These small, blood-sucking parasites annoy the dog and infest your home—often before you know that fleas have gone in. If you've tried the store bought shampoos and you’re still questioning how to get clear of fleas on your dog, here's the easiest and most inexpensive way to do it. Fleas don't just stay on your dog, they lay eggs throughout your house. Every time your infested dog rubs, shakes, lies down or sits on your furniture is an invitation to fleas to set up house in your house! So here's a step by step plan to get rid of fleas from your home and your dog.

1. WASH EVERYTHING

Use HOT Water and Dry on Hottest Setting

Wash your sheets, bedspread, dog bed, dog blankets and dog toys in hot water and dry them on the hottest setting.

2. VACUUM

Vacuum the floors and furniture in your entire house. Fleas can jump from one place to another so you need to vacuum thoroughly.

3. WASH THE FLOORS

Wash all the floors 2 x to make sure you remove all fleas and flea larvae. Fleas are very small and hard to see so you need to be very thorough.

4. DOG BATH

Wash your dog with Dawn dishwashing detergent. The most effective way is to wet your dog and lather him up with Dawn. Don't just put the detergent in the water. Put it directly on your dog. We used the flea shampoo and it didn't work at all so we called the vet and they told us to use Dawn! Less expensive and more effective way to get rid of fleas. By the way, you can't get rid of fleas by drowning them. You'll see when you give your dog a bath that they jump to wherever your dog is not immersed in water. Since we're not about to put our dogs head underwater, there will be some survivors and that's why dog fleas are really hard to get rid of. Which brings us to the next step.

5. The Treat That Kills Dog Fleas

After you've fed your dog his meal, give him/her NexGard. This is like a treat for your dog and makes your dogs blood poisonous to fleas so it can be used as a flea repellent. (by the way I'm NOT paid to tell you this). NexGard kills the larvae as well. So when the fleas bite your beloved pet, they die.

I hope this helps you get rid of fleas because we at Healthwise Exercise care about your health and the health of your family!
